1957 RK - how much should I pay?

    Hello everyone,

I am going to a couple of local militaria shows soon, and will be looking for an early 1957-version Knight's Cross. I'll be looking for 3-piece construction, core painted before assembly, some frosting - you know, all of the features of a nice, early 1957 iron cross.

How much should I expect to pay for one? I'm not looking for a cased award, just the cross with a bit of post-war ribbon.

    Thanks.

Well good luck. Not saying you won't find one, but these are coming harder and harder to find.

However, if you do, depending on maker (without case), you could expect to pay anywhere from $600-$750 easy if it's an early one.

I assume when you say "early", you mean 1st type? If yes, you'd be hard pressed to find out in that price range! I sold a 1st type at the Max on the first day for more than $750. Super S&L 1st type with frosted frames, and cleanly finished eye for the ribbon loop.

I've heard that some of the earlier 2nd type are OK too. Is that true?

There are some very nice "2nd type" with a changed, but still magnetic, core, properly finished ring and frosting.

YOU sold it? I thought all you did was take the money after I sold it....

It was a really super piece...
