Well guys, here it is! I received this in the mail from Germany this week (thanks, Markus Schulze of Militaria-Berlin!)

On the right oak leaf, you can see some copper poking through. The cross IS magnetic, and of 3-piece construction. It seems like the core is copper-plated, then painted.
