    Ebay S&L RK w/oakleaves

    http://cgi.ebay.ca/WW2-GERMAN-KNIGHT...QQcmdZViewItem

This isnt the first time this seller has offered this piece. Last time they offered it, it went unsold and they were selling it for $300. Its gone up to $500 now. Usually if nobody buys something, shouldnt you maybe mark it down?

But anyways, thoughts on this piece?

EDIT: They also have 57 version EKII, EKI, tank badge #25, and the German cross in gold.

Do those pieces appear to be 57's or are they 57 repro's?

Some people on Ebay just have too much money and too less of brain.

The cross is of recent production.

        So it isnt a S&L 57 item?

By recent i'm not sure if you meant recent as in made by S&L before 1986 (or whenever the final year was) or recent as in someone made this last year and its not S&L.

          Stay Away!!!

Stay far away from this one, and anything else he sells.

There was a beautiful early 57 that sold for about $950.00 just a few days ago. I got the court mounted 57 EK2 that was for auction by the same individual.

57s it appears are rising swiftly. Thomas Huss has at later version one on his site and I think it was around 5-600 range.

I bought my unissued ph from this dealer along with 2 spainish awards. They appear genuine although the 57's are fishy. They havent sold anything for a month or two as they were on a break. Now they recently came back and i was suprised to see so many 57 pieces

For sure it's not one I'd want for my collection!

                Hello

It is a current production piece from S&L, made purely for the collectors market. According to S&L's price list the RK in silver costs €75, the Oaks with Swords €27.50 and the case €22.50 - a total of €125 plus shipping. So this E-Bay seller looks set to make a tidy profit on this. Also, if you look at the S&L letter that is in the photos, it is from 2007, confirming that this is one of the current, and compared to the early ones, pretty poor quality ones.

My advice is, keep your money, and if you are willing to spend the sort of amount being bid on this one, look out for one of the real early ones.

                Regards
                David

Well i wasnt thinknig of purchasing it. For that price I much rather buy something period like a KM badge or mint EKI.

So S&L sells these for collectors still?

Where could I buy one of these from S&L? For 125 E, it wouldnt be too bad of a price.

                    Hello

S&L do sell directly to the public, but they aren't particularly good at responding to orders for these 57 pieces. The bulk of their buisness today still lies with badges, etc, but in different areas, so the 57 stuff really does take a back seat now.

E-mail them, if you catch someone on a good day they'll reply and you can make a purchase. Their e-mail address is:

                    info@steinlueck.de

and their website, (which doesn't list the 57 pieces, I got the price list after e-mailing them) is at:

                    http://www.steinlueck.de/index.php?r...tseite&lang=en

                    Regards

Well i e-mailed them asking to buy the KC with oaks and case. Tried to be very polite and hopefully i get a favourable response.

Thanks for the info David! I appreciate it. I've been looking to add a KC to my collection but period ones are too much. So this will subdue my addiction for now!

EDIT: LOL! I checked the KC on ebay...its at $610 Cdn! Thats roughly the same in america currency. 13 bids, only 1 will be unlucky enough to waste their money!

Are his World War One pieces any good, or is it better to stay away form this seller.

                        Thanks, Peter

                          Hello

I agree, a WW2 issue / made RK is a bit pricey these days. Mind you, I'm biased anyway as I'm really into the 57 new form items, but there are much better 57 RKs out there than the current 'made for the collector market' offering from S&L.

Now and then on both E-Bay and the e-stand you will find the very early 57 RKs, made using the original wartime dies, as well as the first production versions of what is termed the 2nd pattern 57 RKs - but these are still of good quality.

Only my opinion, but I'd wait and put a little bit more towards the purchase and go for one the early, better quality versions. Here's one of mine for comparison.

                          Regards

                            Hello

I only had a quick glance a couple of WW1 EKs this seller has, and both looked ok to me.

What is being sold hasn't been questioned. For example the 57 new form RK that is up for sale, as discussed in this thread, isn't a fake. It's simply a current production piece from S&L made solely for the collectors market, and isn't anything remotely like the quality of the early items made in the late 1950's / early 1960's for the veterans. But, none the less, it is a genuine item from a well known maker.

The thing that is surprising everyone is the amount that is being bid on it.

                            Regards
                            David

                              Hello

The final price was $810 AU, which is approximately €496 or £395GBP. Given the price list I posted earlier, someone's making a killing.
