    New Arrival - 57 EK2

    Hello

I've just received this 57 EK2. Magnetic core and three piece construction. The maker mark on the ring isn't legible, but close examination reveals this to be a Deumer made piece. Among other identifiers, is the classic Deumer die flaw on the upper arm of the cross.

As usual, any comments or observations welcomed.

    Regards
    David

That is a good cross but it looks like the core has been touched up after assembly?

        Hello

Thanks for the comments Peter. Yes, it does look as if it was touched up. It certainly isn't re-painted, as in it has lost it's paint and then been redone by someone. A very nice, even level coat of paint. Why this was done, who knows. Either way I like it. A nice item.

        Regards
        David

Looks good David, does the retouching of the core go around against the beading giving a 'one piece' look to it?

            Hello

Yes it does Adrian, even though it is clearly of three piece manufacture. I've seen this on a couple of 57 items in the past. I've just been told that apparently this 'touching up' of things such as the EKs is included as part of the official manufacturing instructions and was the subject of a thread at some point on this forum. I'll see if I can locate it.

As I say, it in no way detracts from the item, and may even be of benefit as it seals the the core against the rims, possibly stopping moisture getting in and so preventing rust.

            Regards
            David

Still a good looking cross though! Nice catch!
