1957 KC with magnetic core question

Hello, this KC has a magnetic core and the "800" mark is on the bottom of the reverse frame.
My question: Is it unusual for it to be stamped on the bottom rather then the top and does anyone know the maker of this KC?

Hi Hardy.
Some are marked that way. Most are marked under the eyelet/ring. Some have no markings at all. Your cross is made by Steinhauer & Luck.

Oldest possible 1957, however it looks more recent. I would say 60s-70s. Pirce range give or take on market pricing (when may be + or - ) $500-$800.

This is the second pattern '57 KC. The oakleaf sprig in the center is the main difference from the 1st pattern '57 KC. A quick search of the forum will show the differences. As it sits it's a fairly good example of a second type '57 KC.

Harald Geissler in "Das Eiserne Kreuz von 1813 bis heute" shows this style as being post 1980 whereas the first type is circa 1960 pattern.

The cross from Hardy is typical style for the 70's. In the 80's came the style you can see below. Hardy's cross is a nice one. Compare Hardys cross with the one below. I think all can see the difference in quality.
