    S&L EK1 1914 & Spange

Picked up this combo a while ago. Not sure, if it’s already an early postwar made piece or not. The pin certainly shows a good amount of wear.

The Ek1 has a magnetic core. The Spange is an uncommon one. It looks similar to the floch copy, but it’s not, as important details are different.

The highlights of this Spange combo are beautifully polished. Wether it’s a late wartime product or an early postwar product, I really like this very rare combo.

    Regards,

    Alex

      Great looking piece Alex!!!
I can't comment much on the Spange, but the pin appears to have the "accepted" postwar S&L tool mark...the scratch, rather than the wartime tool mark, which was more rounded, however, do we know for sure exactly when the tool mark changed?? I dont believe we do!!
The hinge set-up looks much like that found on an early S&L57 DK
To me, this looks more like an early postwar piece, the quality is excellent, and i would think it is quite a rarity, theres no doubt, looking at the construction, that it was made as a combo, and not 2 pieces that were joined together at a later date!!
      I really like it!!!!

Very nice piece! It is beautifully executed. I wonder what the imperial collectors would have to say about it?

              Hey guys,

thanks for the nice comments. I‘m glad that you like this clasp combo as much as I do.

It‘s a fantastic made piece. The soldering of the clasp onto the Ek1 is done in a superb level of quality.

Another thing I really like about this clasp is the patina on the reverse.

Of course the wear on the pin makes one wonder about it‘s history. Obviously someone wore this piece on veteran meetings or similar events, as the pin shows quite some wear.

It‘s too bad the nicely polished highlights don‘t show in the pictures.

Nigel - as for the postwar style S&L tool marks - it‘s a very good question as to when these marks first showed up. We just don‘t know when this happened.

Despite this, in my opinion, S&L made this combo in the very early postwar period.

I believe it’s very well possible that this clasp combo was a made-to-order piece for someone who personally ordered it - of course that’s only guessing.

In any way, I’m sure not many were made.

              Best regards,

              Alex
