    1957 Ost Medal - ST&L ??

    Hi Gents,

Could I get opinions on this medal which I recently purchased. I believe it to be an ST&L however am not entirely sure. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Marcus.

Well, its certainly based on one of S&L dies, the one that they resurrected in more recent years.....
The fact that it was an old, already well worn die is shown by the wear to the edges of the helmet!!!
The loss of finish is unusual, but as long as it is a die struck piece, and not a casting, then I think its ok!!

      Thanks Nigel,

I appreciate your input! I was beginning to wonder if this was perhaps another maker (not fake), due to the edges around the helmet and the contouring of the grenade head on the reverse side. The finish is indeed worn, however there are traces of the white finish on the helmet as well as the black on the medal itself. I was thinking this might have been a deumer as well but the signs are not there.

      Again thanks for your input.

      Marcus

          Its definitely an S&L design!!!
I made a comparison thread showing the two most recent types of S&L Ost dies, and why and when they seemed to change.... but unfortunately, the forum search function seems to be kaput at the moment, so I cant find it!!
