Thanks for your comment but the hardware on this cross seems to be similar to post WW2 / 57er awards, I am fully aware that these were not made in the Weimar Republic era.
The St&L hardware on the Bundesverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse is almost identical, have a look.Last edited by novara; 05-12-2020, 05:55 PM.Comment

Looking at the piece, the finish etc. it is surely postwar.....
As you said Andrew, S&L did use that type of hardware, with the locking clasp, but I don't believe it was unique to them??
Having said that, S&L would be a likely candidate for maker I would have thought???

I would say later S&L pieces.....
The pillow effect on the enamel is very similar to S&L's PLM's. the pin and locking catch system was used on certain later S&L pieces, and the black solder around the hinge and catch mounting plates is typical for S&L on later pieces too!!
The striations on the reverse, especially the first piece is also seen on later S&L war and qualification badges!!
