    Hauptmann Helmut Hohno #2

    Hi guys,

I would like to show you this great group that came from Luud’s collection and very grateful that he contacted me. It also presented a dilemma which Luud and I were talking about which I will present later in the thread. Your opinions would be welcomed. His early DKiG is still in Luud’s collection and hope to get in the near future.

First up is the whole group less one item.

Here is his ribbon bar that is attached to the uniform. The dilemma - remember when I purchased the other 57 ribbon bar? Well, that one had a device for the “200” tank badge. As you can see, he wore on his uniform the “25” tank badge. So, what is correct? Would love to know from the person that purchased the wartime items what his WP indicates on the awards page.

Luud had an extra 25 tank badge device so I switched it as we both came to the conclusion that this is probably the correct version. Unless proven otherwise.

I was a little ticked off about the first ribbon bar I purchased but I won’t get into that.

I’m so happy to be able to add to that one ribbon bar and now need to be creative in my room to not only accommodate this group but all the others I need to display now.

        Regards
        Rudy

Great grouping and a great piece of history!!!
Perhaps the guy who recently wrote that 57ers had "no historical value" might change his view a little if he saw this?? I hope so anyway!!
              Congrats!!!

I agree Nigel. I hope he does realize now the importance of collecting 57er items. Up to him not to collect but they do have an important historical value. This is one of many veteran groups I have, including uniforms.

                  Thanks Carlos.

Cracking group Rudy and a nicely displayed. I chose not to reply when that comment was made when I showed some e-boats. How any militaria can have no historical value is beyond me.

                      Cheers

Hi Dan. Hope all is well with the family.

Hi Mark - some people just can’t get over it. But that is ok. As long as we carry on with the respect it deserves.

                        Regards

I went and read the comment about 57ers having no historical significance. The don’t if you only collect things from before May 9th 1945, but I am reminded of the wonderful photo of Otto Gille having one of the first 57er RKs with swords and diamonds around his neck that Sepp posted on the Vets thread. The look of pride shows just how much historical significance these awards have for vets. Life didn’t finish for them after May 8th. A wonderful group like this highlights the pride and the historical continuity.
