    Group of E-Boats

    Hi all,

Just thought in the current climate I would upload some e-boats to brighten the day. Always mean to upload pics but never seem to get round to it so perhaps this is my kick up the bum to get on with it.

I appreciate they are not all the earliest but they are one on my favourite 57's and so I seem to acquire them. The top left is a very nice early S & L with closed hinge, needle pin and a nice large 'O' mark. The middle top also has a closed hinge block and the top right just has a lovely patina to it.

Bottom three are all later. I have another closed hinge block in the post. Happy to part with a couple of the bottom row if people have gaps in collections or there wants list, always willing to swap to fill gaps in my collection (send me a pm).

    Hope you like them.

    Cheers

No wonder I can't find one.

      You've got them all.

      Nice collection.

          Really great collection!!!
The later ones are nice too.....I actually like to see all the different variants and production periods of the same medal or badge....it shows us how the pieces changed over time, how flaws appeared or how different dies may have been used throughout the history of each piece!!!
          Thanks for sharing!!

Lovely; thanks for sharing! I think this is the most attractive of the Kriegsmarine war badges.

Beautifull, although I have never understood why one would collect 57's since they have no historical value to me.

I have to respectfully disagree there.

Don't get me wrong: Collecting interests vary between all of us and are always wholly subjective and a matter of personal preference. I'm not trying to convince you to start collecting 57ers. If you say they are of no interest to you personally, that is perfectly fine and legitimate.

But as for them having no historical value; well, I beg to differ. Please consider this:

1957ers made their appearance more than six decades ago. They were made by manufacturers who had previously made the original wartime versions. They were proudly worn by the men who had earned those awards during the war. Many of those men resumed their military careers after the formation of the Bundeswehr and continued to serve their country with distinction. In fact, it was the establishment of the Bundeswehr (which has now been in existance for much longer than the Reichswehr and Wehrmacht combined) that was the prime motivation for the creation of these awards. The decorations themselves - with their de-nazified designs - are highly symbolic for the re-birth of Germany and her armed forces. Medal- and ribbon bars in particular will often sport 1957ers alongside awards of the FRG and even the Empire and the Weimar Republic, representing four very different incarnations of the same country and the careers and lives of men who lived through these turbulent and perilous times.

So, I'd say there's plenty of historical significance and continuity behind the 1957ers.

Thanks for your comments. Yes Mathijs your correct sadly there is still a gap for a Deumer e-boat which I know is a rare beast to track down. It wouldn't be enjoyable if it was too easy though would it

                  Cheers

HPL2008: indeed subjective and a matter of personal preference, but I do of course respect the choice of every collector, if we would all have the same scope that would be boring :-)!
This said, I remembered I have one 1957 and just curious about the whereabouts and value in order to exchange it against a Kriegsmarine item. thx Joe
