Looks like an early one too me with an early case.

I can't really see the knee flaw. Maybe someone with better eyes than I have can confirm it.

Frome these photo's, it looks like a 1st pattern core, with a few core/paint issues, C frame?? in an early case, and a modern repro ribbon.

I could not see a knee flaw so I go along with C frame first core.

Loop looks a little large for an early 1st Core C frame.......Nigel?

I have one almost identical with the same paint flaws.

I remember Luud showing a few early S&L RK's with similar extra long loops....
Might have been a variant, possibly for how the vet wanted to wear the cross??

Is it possible that these C frames with the speckles were from the end of the run of first cores when the die started to wear out?

Better pictures of the cross are needed to properly identify the frame.

I read the comment about the ribbon being a modern repo. I have owned this ribbon for over 30 years and the ribbon In the pictures is the ribbon that came with the medal when I purchased it . Is the modern repo ribbon the ribbon that came with the medal originally or was the original ribbon replace by someone between manufacture and when I purchased the ribbon ? The ribbon shown has never been out of the case.

I said I thought it looked like a repro ribbon, as I can't see any rounded loop ends at the edges...or is it just the lighting??
Maybe if you could take a few more photo's of the whole set in less bright light??

More pictures of ribbon. Someone wanted more pictures of cross. What are you looking for in the new pictures?

                      Thanks for the extra pics!!
It is a later ribbon, the material is different to an original, and it doesn't have the looped edges which earlier ones have!
Here is an earlier ribbon to compare.......
