    HESSEN-DARMSTADT Kriegsehrenzeichen in Eisen

    Gents,

    This example has just arrived. From the seller's photos I considered the badge as a copy, I bought it for the award certificate, considering that this badge was awarded only about 2000 times, it worth to buy the citation, the badge came as a bonus.

    Having it in hand, I have decided to show it here because somehow its appearance reminds me to some post WW2 made badges, in particular the hinge.

    Please note that the badge came with no catch, the one you see on it is the result of my DIY jeweller job.

    Any thoughts?

    By the way this is how an original looks, the one I've bought does not seem a copy trying to look as the original... that made to consider, possibly it is a post WW2 made example????

      I haven't seen one of these as a postwar piece, but it is postwar by the looks of it!!
      The remaining hardware is of a type used by both S&L and Assmann, and the type of finish, both the silver and the black, remind me more of Assmann than S&L???
      But I am not sure to be honest!!

        I have one with the exact same design on the front. Mine has differend hardware and is marked DRGM. IMO yours can also be a WWII made piece. Don´t forget that there where soldiers who worn them in WWII. I think you most first compare the hardware with WWII badges. I believe that Schneider ES also used this type of hard ware (woundbadges). Here is mine to compare:

          That’s a wonderful „bloody Ludwig“. As with most postwar made imperial pieces - made by St&L.
          Not a very common piece to find. I have two in my postwar imperial collection as well. Here is a thread I made a while ago ...

            Never knew that they also are made postwar by S&L. Thanks for showing the thread
            IMO the one in the first thread is slightly different than your S&L´s , the hook, needle block and the finish. Also the date is painted in. But it is just my observation
