    EK2/ KVK2 Medal Bar

While the combination of EK2 & KVK2 on a 2 place medal bar is not uncommon, this one is a bit more unusual, as the KVK2 is "without swords"!!!
Both medals are nice, early S&L's!!!!

        Not common at all.

Here's an interesting thought if you could prove it.

Both belonged to the same man.

Both lovely medal bars filled with interesting possibilities. What scenario would see these two together? Perhaps a party person going to the front after service in Germany during the first part of the war? Someone is Camps then going to the front? Someone involved in diplomatic work ending up on the front lines. Train driver? So many possibilities. We can only wonder.

            Hello Nigel......very nice bar

I have collected WWII medalbars for years and made a small study of them. Now I have a few questions about this 1957 medal bar:

            - is the needle hook non magnetic? WWII medalbar needle hooks always seem to be magnetic, I noticed!
            - did they used WWII leftover ribbon for this medalbar? IMO this is an early type medalbar, am I right?
            - if they did, is it also possible they used WWII leftover 45 mm ribbon for the early KC 1957?

              Hello Henk...Thanks for your interest!!!
To try and answer your questions......
The hook on this bar is non magnetic, I haven't checked all my medal bars, but of around 30 I did check, only one had a magnetic hook!!
They certainly did use leftover wartime ribbon on the early 57 bars, they also made use of wartime ribbons beneath the outer ribbons and backing cloth, to attach the outer ribbons too, often these were ribbons for medals which were no longer supposed to be worn (though they sometimes were!) such as Sudetenland, Anschluss, Westwall etc.
I agree with you, that this looks to be an early 57 bar, judging by the materials used, the quality of construction, and the medals themselves!!
They seemed to use any wartime leftovers, I have seen several 57er RK to the KVK's with wartime ribbons like new, so I would think that they would also use up any leftover RK to the EK ribbons paired up with 57er RK EK's!!

Hello Nigel thanks for your answers

IMO the one with the magnetic hook is probably a WWII leftover medalbar backplate they have used.

You have seen my very early S&L KC, it came also with a 45 mm ribbon with a white stitch count of 23. You may know how many stitches the most early S&L RK´s have?

I am not a real 1957 collector (not yet ), but I I'm starting to appreciate the quality and design of the early pieces in particular
