    Ek2 with a blank core

Got this 1939 cross with blank core today, probably the core was replaced.
Anybody have an opinion about the maker, when its got this new core or maybe was made like this?

Rudolf Souval made these blank-core crosses for Austrian veterans. Here are my 2nd- and 1st Class specimens:

        Nice EK!!!!!
These Souval blank core EK's are among my favourites!!!
The earliest used all Souval parts, including frame and hardware for the 1st class, gradually, S&L style parts replaced Souval's, until the last made ones were all S&L style, apart from the blank core itself!!!

Interesting piece, too bad about the condition of the frame.

The earlier blank core EK's usually had the frames glued together with animal glue, over the many years that have passed, the glue often fails and the frames fall apart!
It looks like this one may have had a home-made attempt at soldering the frames back together??

A good jeweler could remedy that. Nice badges.

Thank you a lot for your replays guys.
Did i got it right that all EK made by Souval are postwar? I don't think Souval made all the EK with blank core, is it rare? which period the made this kind of cross?

All blank core Souval EK's are postwar, this is an early one from maybe mid to late 50's
They aren't that hard to find, but they don't turn up every day

                    Wonderful blank core Souval EK2.
As Nigel already said, these EK‘s were produced postwar.
They predate the 1957 EK variants. These blank core crosses served as a wearable alternative for veterans who didn‘t want to show off the swastika variants.
Souval also produced a Knights Cross with a blank core - Super rare and much more difficult to find than the blank Ek‘s.

                    Regards,
                    Alex

Thank you Nigel, good to know about this cross, i usually don't collect postwar stuff but this one was cool. Never saw a blank core before, i got it with 2 other 57 badges will make a new thread for the rest of the loot later.

You have a really nice KC there, looks 3 parts cross but is it over painted?
I can see black paint all around the inside edges .
