I’m very happy that I was able to add this beautiful cross to my collection.
It’s a very scare to find St&L made Freikorps Rossbach Cross 1st Class.
The initial crosses were awarded up to 1933. However, in the late 1950’s, Rossbach ordered a small batch of crosses through Klietmann.
These crosses were supposedly given to special business acquaintances of Rossbach. They were also given out at the 40th reunion of the Freikorps Rossbach in 1961.
They are made of tombac with a gilt finish. The pin, catch and solid block hardware used on the cross all match the production time frame of the late 1950’s- early 1960’s. The white enameling is flawless. The gilded highlights, the deer heads as well as the “R” are beautifully polished. Hard to show on the pictures.
These crosses are very scarce and hard to come by, as not many were made.
They were not a typical Freikorps “collectors” badge like for example the Silesian eagle. It’s a great addition for the Freikorps section of my St&L and Souval postwar collection.
Regards,
Alex
