    Souval Ost Medal 1957

Here is a medal that is not shown often on here. It’s Souval’s 1957 Ost Medal on an Austrian single mount. Even though this is my third Souval Ost Medal, they are usually not common and can be quite difficult to find. They are early postwar made from zinc. Despite being made from zinc and the finish problems often related with zinc, they are of course my favorite postwar Ost medal.
Some of the medals - like this one are marked L/58 on the ribbon ring.
Upon closer inspection it shows that Souval has it’s own separate design on this medal - the eagles head, claws, berrys are all different in design.

    Regards,
    Alex

    Nice medal Alex!!
I like the Ostmedaille design, and all the main makers had their own version, each slightly different to each other!!
The Souval is also unique in being made in zinc, and the finish on these pieces is very much like that on zinc wartimers!!!
What always interested me, was, that Souval went to the trouble of producing a new 57 die for these medals, but in later years, when they changed to a casting method, they chose to cast from the S&L design, not this one???
As you said, these are quite scarce, especially when compared with the many S&L and Deumer types!
There is also another design, which I believe could be a Deschler, but I've never seen one for sale to get hands on!!!

        Hello Carlos!!
The one I was referring to is not for sure by Deschler, it is only known in a few photo's!
But appears to be an early piece, and it is from a different design to Deumer, Souval or S&L....which pretty much only leaves Deschler, but it might be better to call it "unknown maker" for now!!
