Civil Service Faithful Service Medal / 50 Years

    Gents,

I trust this is not often seen, what do you think about this example?

    Thanks in advance.

I’m fortunate to have one of these, bought from Steve. I’ll check when I get home.

This is my example. The highlights are highly polished. Are they on your example or is it a later piece?

Tony makes a good point about the polished highlights....if they are a mirror like finish on the raised borders of the arms, its an early piece, looking at the photo's I think yours might be a little later?
The more modern versions have a poorer finish, especially on the gilding, and a thin, flimsy suspension ring....yours is certainly not a modern piece!!
Good S&L, maybe just not a very early one!!

On the risk of being pedantic, but just for the sake of accuracy: Only the 25 and 40 year grades were for the civil service; the 50 year grade was for 50 years of work for the same employer in the private sector. (That's the reason for the different reverse inscriptions with "Dienste" [service] vs. "Arbeit" [work].)

Not being pedantic at all......you are quite right, and its good to be as accurate as possible as new collectors are looking in all the time!!!!

As indeed the wording denotes on the rear of the 50 yrs medal.
