While Souval made German Crosses in denazified pattern are among the rarest of German Crosses made in the postwar years, here is chance to look at an interesting worn variant.
It’s a transitional piece showing changes from the „early postwar pattern“ to the early-mid postwar phase. It still features the dark black star burst and is still nicely frosted beneath the iron cross. The hinge on the reverse is the first type.
The mid pattern features include the second pattern EK with polished oak leaf, tapered pin and the typical Souval clasp hardware.
It’s a beautiful worn DKiG showing an honest amount of wear on the starburst as well as on the pin itself. I’m sure this cross saw a bit of wear on quite a few occasions during the postwar years.
It’s a beautiful addition to have a worn cross next to many mint crosses.
Best regards,
Alex
