Black SF Beret???

Came across this beret. To my eye there is no "green" to the wool. What do I have? The SF pin shows some verdigris as if the pin is made of silver or silver over brass.

In the late 60s, before the Long Tab, students in training group wore a beret with no flash after phase after completing phase 1.

When you graduated from training group, you went to a regular group and sewed on their particular flash.

Real berets were in short supply in the 60s. If you were a trainee and lost yours you had to go to PX or downtown and buy one. There were several varieties commonly available and most did not look very good.

That label reminds me of some I have seen.

Don't know about the color, some of the store bought examples were dark.
Just some old memories.

Thank you for the info. For all the information (good and bad) on the internet, there are some big voids in a lot of areas.
