    M1 helmet find Hawley?

This is a helmet I just picked up at an estate sale....I am no expert on US helmets....the helmet has a forward seam and no rivets....the liner is in pretty poor shape and looks like cardboard?.....any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like a WW2 Hawley liner.
    Repainted/rebuilt shell.
    Post war chin strap.

Unquestionably a Hawley liner.....These were temporary until they developed a more durable and practical replacement......They were also generally found with fixed bale helmets......Bodes

General also made pressed paper liners....These tend to be rather rare.....May want to look for a stamp inside indicating they manufactured it, although condition is rough...Bodes

Frank, the black rubber stamp will read "LINER-FIBRE-M1" and "G" if made by General....Chances are good yours was not made by General.....Bodes
