Hello Forum Members,
I would like to share one of my favorite helmets that i purchased from a 82nd airborne 325th regiment veteran, about 6 months ago. I worked on this helmet for about three years, and finally talked him into selling. The history of this helmet is amazing, according to the veteran he had it camoflauged in Morraco buy a little boy who set up a paint stand, and the guys in his unit had there helmets painted for ciggies, and other food rations. The paint job consist of lime green base coating, with a chocolate brown wavy brush strokes. The exact camo helmet is in the book "GERONIMO" by Bill Rentz page 178 & 179, showing para's loading up on a plane in Sicily.According to the vet this helmet went from Africa, Italy,D-Day, Operation Market Garden, and the Bulge. Quite an adventure, he said he fought the war crawling on his stomach for about 2000 miles.
The helmet net is original to the piece, he couldn't remember what time period he got the helmet net. enjoy the pics! David
