    American WW1 medal group

    Hello,
I recently came across a nice set of medals to a WW1 American soldier.I took them as part exchange on a few Imperial German bits I had but to be honest I haven't a clue as to their value.I didn't even know what some of the medals were until a couple of hours ago.The medals and discharge certificate have been professionally framed in the recent past and theirs also a blue card box that the Army of Occupation medal came with. The box has a September 1945 date on it.Is this correct for a medal awarded for service in WW1??
Can anyone provide me with any information such as current value and also what the little silver star with US on it was awarded for.
    Thanks in advance,
    Derek.

    Hi,

a very nice group. The date of 45 is ok, maybe he bought this medal later for a lost one. Interesting is, that he has got the (unofficial) french Verdun-Medal which was instituted in 1918 by the city of Verdun for all defenders.

    Best regards

Very nice group indeed! The Purple heart, given for wounds is tracable. A world war one purple heart usually goes for about @$150 alone.
Many American vets bought the Verdun medal-it was advertised in the American Legion magazine. My Granddad had one and the closest he got to Verdun was about 20 miles away at Dominey.

The medal between the Purple Heart and the WWI Victory Medal is the State of New York WWI Service Medal. It is worth about $40 dollars. The little silver star with the US, I believe is a lapel pin that was issued to all WWI vets at the time of discharge from active service.
