    I have one two

I just purchased a Amphib. FMF group this weekend from a friend of mine who has had it for years, it also has the PI ribbon on it. It is straight as my friend doesn't even really collect US but only German but bought US items from vets and their families. I will post some photos this week.

      Hi Kurt,

Thanks for the info. Hearing about your grouping with the PL ribbon certainly reinforces the authenticity of mine.

That would be great if you could post some pics!

      Thanks,

      Konrad

If the ribbon is indeed original to the tunic, and it seems so, then my bet is that it is for Leyte.
This would most likely have been the only use of amtracs to any degree when they took the FMF artillery brigade ashore during the amphibious landing.
They 1st Marine air wing flew from airstrip to airstrip and their men and materials would have gone by air or sea transport.
I just cant figure out the connection with the flag in the group.

Thanks for the extra info. Digging around today I discovered the name of the uniform's first owner and to which it is marked, Marvin T. Glenham, listed in the National Memorial Register, which means the tunic was re-issued to Gage after he was killed - very interesting!

            Konrad,

Another possibility would be to track down Ms. Mildred G. Job who entered his name on the NMR. Maybe she's the daughter, niece, cousin, etc. who knows which unit he served in? Since the original owner, Marvin T. Glenham was from NC, I'd start in NC with the Super Pages and see if I could find a phone number for her there? She might have all the answers you need as to which unit the last owner served in? If Marvin was KIA, the possibility of his uniform being reissued to another Marine in the same Battalion, Regiment or Division would be very good. Just by finding someone who cared enough to register him could be a very important lead?

              Hi Folks,

One old photo for sale in ebay .... note the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

              Best regards,

              Ricardo.

                Thanks Ricardo,
Probably the only shoulder patches that would likely be seen with a PL ribbon would be 1st MAW, several different FMF PAC ones and Ships Detachment Gyreens like this guy. The only possible exceptions would be if a Marine transferred to a different unit at the end of the war and wore their patch instead.
For my part, I would need some explanations as to why the PL ribbon would be present if any other than the above mentioned shoulder patches were on the same tunic.
