To me, it looks like a real WW2 era M-1 Helmet liner destroyed by time. It has Early War era light khaki straps. The straps and most canvas items tend to change to a darker green after 1943. Some older Early WW2 materials were still used as late as the Korean War era. I saw a Vietnam War 1960s Duffel Bag with some light khaki parts from Early WW2. I would have to say that your liner is a 1943 to 1945 made example. It is not the first pattern liner made of the Pith Helmet Fiber Tropical material. It has the D.I. Hole for a screw-back insignia. The Korean War helmet liners don't have a D.I. Hole on the front. I think that is a 5th Infantry Division logo like their unit patch painted on the front.

The liner's webbing was reattached to the shell some time in it's life....Hence the extra rivets seen on the exterior...No doubts it's a WW2 liner....Bodes
