The Same Combat & Unit Patch

After WWII, did soldiers who remained in the same unit that they went to war with; wear the same patch on both sleeves? I know this is the practice now. I recently came across an Ike jacket that has two 7th Infantry Division patches sewn on both sleeves and have never seen this before on WWII uniforms.

    Thanks,
    John

The original designation of the right shoulder patch was "Former Wartime Unit" and was only to be worn after a soldier had left the unit where he had served in combat. We've discussed this before, and recently, with the concensus that the practice of wearing the "sandwich" (both patches the same) didn't occur until the 1970's.
