    Help ID this mm:

    LAMPL: 1921 - 1959
It is the mark for Walter Lampl. A very rare maker, but sometimes seen on Juarez wings (little known fact!).

    From the intenet:

The Lampl Company NY, was founded by Walter Lampl in 1921. It was a wholesale jewelry company. Some of the jewelry in WWII was produced in Mexico (thus the Juarez connection!). Walter Lampl died in 1945 and his wife Sylvia Lampl and son Walter Jr. took over managing the company. The company ceased operations in 1959. Mark: "WALTER LAMPL", "LAMPL", "WL 14K", "14K WL"(on rings), "By Lampl" in script, "By Lampl STERLING" with the name in script, "WL in a shield, STERLING", "WL in a shield 1/20 - 12K Gold Filled", "THE UNITED FRONT...BEHIND THE FRONT" for rings, bar pins, bracelets, necklaces, charms, dress clips, key chains, earrings and brooches since July 1942, "WALBURT" for rings, bracelets, earrings, lapel pins, necklaces, lavalieres, lockets, charms, and dress clips in March 1944, "Pin Wheel" in script on ornamental dress and lapel pins used since Dec. 1945, "Toddle Tot" for bracelets, rings, necklaces, lockets, barrettes, and pins used since Feb. 1944. Lampl costume jewelry is highly collectible. The company ceased operations in 1959.

One other thing, notice the "G" in sterling is upside down. This is a frequent error also seen on the small 1 inch sweetheart wings stamped "Sterling" that are so common. I believe that these little wings may have also been made by Walter Lampl.

Flak88, your wing looks like it may be a bombadier's? Please confirm, so I can add this maker to our manufacturer's listing.

A very nice article about Lampl (including some interesting detail about the rationale for jewelry manufacturing in Mexico during W.W.II) can be found here:

A wing collector looked at thos today and is concerned the photo I posted above shows casting and may be fake. Any comments?

Without seeing the whole wing and handling it, its (generally) hard to say. However, it doesn't look cast to me. I would say its fine, if a rare wing.

That is exactly what the wing should look like. In fact, it is a Juarez bombardier wing. Usually marked coin silver or just sterling. Rarely with the WL mark!

The pin/hinge is usually a weak brass thing.

                  IMHO, perfectly legit wing.
