10th Mountain division lot from vet's son

Just got all this 10th mountain division son from the vet's son. Most of it is pictured here, waiting on getting the tunic too.
SOme insignia, pins, etc... from the 106th too. I guess he transfered from there. Son said that they asked if anyone could ski, and he could so they took him right away to camp hale. I have a bunch of his tests from Benning and Camp Hale paper too. Lots of interesting 10th newspapers and stuff. It is interesting he kept all his manuels, there are 7/8 of them all WW2. He has some neat fotos of them skiing in the white anaraks and stuff with the kit.
I like the hats the best. 3 different ones, one with sterling crossed skiis and US on it.
The guy was our local police chief, who died a long while ago, and his son is the one I got all the items from.
I do not really collect this stuff, but think it is neat. May have to start now though.

Here is some insignia, I got some more but can't find it...with some postcards,etc...and a nice ww2 minty ammo box that still has the pin.

Very nice find! Hey, I live 90 miles from Camp Hale, so if you get tired of this excellent grouping, send it on back to Colorado! It would definitely have a good home here! I sure would have liked to hear this vet's story on how he acquired the officer's o/s cap.

Very neat group. I am really looking forward to seeing the tunic. Would you mind posting a close up of the 87th Infantry Day leaflet? I was in the 2/87th from 95-00 (10th Mtn. Div. Ft. Drum) - so would be nice to take a gander at this. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Just noticed you have an 87th inf crest in the box. VIRES MONTESQUE VINCIMUS... WE CONQUER MEN AND MOUNTAINS. Very neat! What type of attachment does it have on the back? Heres a modern one. Thanks again.

I noticed the chevrons, that's why I think there was a most interesting story behind the officer's cap?

I think the 87th DUI was made by A.H. DONDERO. Big time manufacturer of insignia back then.

Will post the tunic when I get it. Still no idea why he has an officer cap. Yes, the skiis with the US is a really nice piece, I think it is sterling as it has toned very nicely over the years. No Idea where he got it though.

The ski pins, which were worn on the overseas cap, were made by jewelers around Camp Hale, Colorado while the division was stationed there.
You can find them with both pin and clutch fasteners, and can also be found with branch insignia affixed to the skis instead of the US. These badges are quite collectible and are full of variations.
You should note that I know that one of the 10th reenacting units had some of these made for their folks and the skis were also made out of sterling silver. While they weren't made to deceive collectors, the possibility is there that some of these newly minted pins could have already ended up in other collectors' hands as originals.
