Multi shade cartridge belt

The color of the flaps on this cartridge belt are a different(lighter) shad than the darker pockets, and the belt is also a differnt shade than the rest. It isn't due to fading, but contruction. Just wondering if this is simply a variation due to a war peroid change over, or is it a unit specific.

These belts were most likely "transition" pieces made when the Army was changing from OD to khaki. The companies would run out of some pieces and the new stock would be in the darker OD color. They don't really seem to have been too worried about making sure it matched. Many other field gear items can be found in khaki/OD mix. I have one that is the opposite of yours, darker flaps with ligher pockets. These were not unit specific.
