    2nd Chemical Mortar Bn

The 2nd CMB was the only such unit on the rolls of the US Army prior to and post WW 2 (one of the reasons you find so many US made cloth insignia for the battalion). They were sent to Korea 8 October 1950 until the truce signing on 27 July 1953. The 2nd CMB was also the last such battalion on the rolls of the Army.

They suffered more casualties in Korea than they did in WW 2, and they saw heavy action in that conflict. The Battalion received credit for seven campaigns in WW 2, including 2 amphibious landings. In Korea, they received credit for nine campaigns.

The Battalion was redesignated the 461st Infantry Bn (Heavy Mortar) in Jan 53 and then redesiganted 88th INf Bn (Heavy Mortar) in April 1953.

There are several cloth insignia associated w/ the 2nd CMB during the KW.
