Nice item - I really like these little bits of history, especially if the details of the vet's acquisition of the item are preserved.
Do you by chance have a letter from the vet detailing his unit, service history, where/when/how he acquired the fragment? A photo of the vet holding the fragment would be nice, as would any period photos of him that you can acquire.
