This jacket belonged to a local Marine corporal who was part of Marine Helicopter Squadron One in Korea, 1950. I know HMX-1 sent a contingent of 4 helicopters into Korea to assist the 1st Provisional Marine Brigade at Pusan, and we believe he was in that group (he has passed away and we are still trying to get his records). We have his uniform on display also, but I wanted to see if anyone here had seen this early patch or had any other information. Thanks for your help!

I should note that "Equitatus Caeli", or "Calvary from the Sky", became the motto of HMR-161 when it was formed in 1951. From what I can tell, HMX-1 trained the core of the pilots that formed 161. From wikipedia, "The requirements of the Korean War exceeded the Navy's training requirement thus HMX-1 was pressed into service as a training command for the first few years of the war. They trained the nucleus of pilots that would form HMR-161, the first Marine helicopter transport squadron." I'm thinking that as this patch has the "1", this pre-dates HMR-161.
