model (1890) Japanese World War 2 Naval Admiral's

I was contacted by a gentleman who received this sword in 1973 as inheritance from his grandfather. Came with a p0istol, dagger and a few other items but he knows little about his grandfather's service.

I would appreciate you guys looking it over and giving me your opinion along with some idea of value. Apparently he is the end of the family line and is curious about the value and selling it.

I told him you guys might help and then, him living in Louisville, he could take it to the SOS to see about selling it.

So, I would appreciate your help helping him.

Hi Jareth, Please remember I am not familiar with Japanese. You are saying it is a common Naval officers dress sword?

Not specific to admirals or anything special?

Not very common to find nowadays, but real Japanese, and as Jareth described.

It's the 1883 model for officers with an eleven leaf guard (pg 257 in Dawsons)
The nine leaf version shown on pg 256, has a longer handle.
It states that it was originally authorized for the ranks of ensign through captain.

Common in America. Pretty plain - scabbard looks ready to crack in half. if he walked in to the show someone would probably offer him $50 -$75 max
