Japanese rising sun flag opinions please

    Hi, again
Just had this framed. Hope I didn’t jump the gun on this one. I plan on posting a flag my grandfather brought back from his service in the Marines in the pacific as well as a few other items. I also have his records showing where he fought.....but that’s another post...lol.

    Thanks guys.....Mike

    Flag

My guess is a souvenir flag produced for G.I. troops. Not manufactured by Japanese military. Ties on corners are wrong just for starters

I did realize the absence of tabs. You said “for starters “, please feel free to explain further. Since I’ve apparently made a bad purchase , I’m willing to hear all the warning signs on this as to not make the exact mistake again. Perhaps it will help others. I can always take the flag out of the frame, burn it and replace it with an original. Most of my 20 plus years have been spent on TR blades.
Thanks again. I’ll eventually get the feel for them. Paying my dues again. But I’m not going to get discouraged about collecting Japanese militaria. Have a few decent reference books now as well.

How do these look. A Japanese Taisho enthronement medal, a WW1 medal and a Shōwa enthronement medal from 1928?

              1. Bleeding of red dye/paint onto white field

              2. Red dye applied after the "flag" hem was sewn -- note the threads on the red/white borders at the hem.

              3. Although not signed, this flag looks -- to me -- like it is a "Seabee" special.

Thanks buddy, really appreciate it. I have reached out to the seller and asked if he would take back the flag if I found a better, more expensive ORIGINAL. His ad did state that there were no refunds. Yet another red flag....trying to appeal to his greed now.

How does this look? Or is all his offerings bad?

The hat looks authentic, but does not belong to that sailor in the photo named Mikaku [三角]. Cap is to a Yokosuka volunteer sailor named Masazawa Kōji.

                        Tally:
                        大日本帝国海軍
                        Dai Nippon Teikoku Kaigun
                        Greater Japanese Imperial Navy

                        Name in label:
                        正沢公司
                        Masazawa Kōji

If you get the hat I'll translate the full label for you.

Have you a photo of the other side of the WW1 medal? There is more than one for the period. Does yours have a single or double column of kanji on the reverse?

                          Regards,
                          Stu
