I just picked up this Japanese helmet cover and wondered if it is actually real. I have never had one of these before so any help would be appreciated. It is a heavy padded one and has a nicely sewn band near the bottom. This all seems to be different than what I could see on line. Thanks, Tom.

Interesting - I look forward to responses, as I have been studying these but haven't gotten into owning one yet. It looks like the pattern/seams are correct, but I don't see any natural wear on it … from your photos. DanComment

I have had several real IJA covers and some super nice repro's that could fool 99% of buyers.
So I would request that you post a new photo that is an outside close up photo of the top crown area where the pie shaped sections come together? Would prefer it captures about an 8 inch diameter view of the this area. I'll explain the reason and what is/is not there to you when the picture is up.
