    Two Japanese optical instruments

    I bought these two today
I think the periscope is a bore sight
The other is a Nikko and has a cross hair graticle
    Any ideas ?

    Elbow part:
    高低用
    Kōtei-yō
For high and low; for pitch
    [probably "For Elevation"]

    Written on the box:

    潜望式経緯儀潜望鏡匣
    senbō shiki keiigi senbōkyō hako
    theodolite model periscope box

潜望 senbō [I can't find a definition for just 潜望]

    式 shiki = style

    経緯儀 keiigi = theolodite

    潜望鏡 senbōkyō = periscope

I find lots of hits for 潜望式経緯儀 which is a theodolite used by artillery.
One was a manual reprint [I think] being sold; no images:
    砲兵用光学兵器潜望式経緯儀 (三十秒読経緯儀)
Artillery Optics ordnance theolodite style periscope (30 second reading periscope)
.... or words similar to that!

The pale blue label is too fuzzy for me to read, but it has a date stamp above it:

    昭和十二
    Sho[wa] 12
    1937

That's all I'm able to do.
