Kanjis ? On US canteen.

Hello, I just picked up this US canteen. Looks to wear some kanjis on one side (on the other 3 crosses) ? The canteen come from the Vosges area in France, son maybe from an « Japanese American » soldier ?
Sorry it's not a 100% japanese item, but i know here i can find some help.

To be honest it doesn't look like Japanese lettering to me. Maybe just random scratches or some GI's initials. Maybe an A and a T.
