    Kanji on a tsuka

    Hi,
    I have an unsigned tanto and wonder if this script gives any clues to the maker.

    No. I cannot make it out, but marks like this were for assembly/construction. I've seen them on my swords as well ... usually (if I recall ... I no longer have my gunto furniture) they match the assembly number of the tang.

    The marks look like a 4¯\ and わ王 [wa-Ō] 王 means king; 王 is also a Korean name ... like the baseball player 王貞治 Oh Sadaharu [Korean-Japanese]
