    Need opinions on cut down tachi

    At least that's what the sword presents itself to be. But i have some doubts... Your learned help is much appreciated!

            Whilst not the original a sword of this age would have gone through quite a few
            it certainly has age

                  It doesn’t alter the attribution, which is the most important piece of information although I think most people would prefer they were intact.
                  As Nick says, habaki newness is irrelevant but a two piece with that fine workmanship is in itself an indication of a quality package.

                        Most likely the OP didn't buy the sword. Therefore many of your questions can't be answered. The only thing I'll add is this sword is not for a beginner.
