Ranks of dress caps to identify.

Here’s what I found in “Japanese Military Uniforms 1930’s-1945” by Ritta Nikanishi book.
1st cap- 2nd Lieutenant
2nd cap- Major
3rd cap- Colonel

Isn't the silver star on top meant for civilians serving in the army? Their belt sash would be like grey or blue instead of the red color.

The middle one is Captain. Major is double vertical stripe with 4 bottom stripe (not counting the one connecting the crown to the body, which makes it a Capt).

I have seven. From WO to full Colonel. My Colonel one has a silver star on top.
