Order of the Rising Sun

Does anyone know how to date the manufacture of the Order of the Rising Sun Awards?
Just asking on behalf of another collector. He wasn't sure if you could tell second world war as opposed to post war.

Essentially, there are ways to distinguish which periods the Orders were made; but in some instances, excess supply was used while available (as I recall).
