Type 90 Helmet with Red Star

    Hello,

I'm posting this helmet for a friend of mine who just got it. He got the helmet from the Vets son who had had it since his father passed away. He stated that he did not paint the red star and that neither did his father.

I was wondering what the red star could mean or if you think that it is just a added touch be a vet? Please let me know...

Also, does anyone have any idea what the stitched writing means?

    Regards,
    Chris G.

Based on the dark green exterior color & red painted star it could be post WW2 used by Vietnam

Would depend on age of label. Looks relatively recent.

A couple of questions that may help figure out the mystery:

What's on the full label and how old does it look?

What's in the inside of the helmet (yelloW0 ? Did it come with the helmet?

Was the vet a WW2 vet? a Viet Nam vet? or possibly both?

            PG-

Agree with Jareth. Paul G, to me the label looks like a yellow post it pad with writing from a red felt tip pen! Current helmet configuration is NOT wartime Japanese - we should all agree on that . At best, a vietnamese reused helmet. At worst, a faked communist vietnamese helmet?

                Hello All,

Here are a few more photo's.

The post-it note was something that the guy my friend bought the helmet from. My friend said that the guys dad got the helmet in Okinawa during ww2 and was not in the Vietnam war. Obviously, this is just a story.

The yellow fabric on the inside of the helmet he said was a flare parachute.

It could be captured Chinese PLA reused T90 during China/Vietnam war.

In this photo,PLA's wearing GK80 Helmet & Reuse Japanese Type 90 Helmet with painted red star in 1979 during the China/Viename war .
