Japanese hinomaru flag signed by Hiromasa with tiger

Hi, a few years ago now I bought part of a collection and this flag was in the items

It has a tag that said it was signed by Hiromasa and has a nice painted tiger also,

I was just wondering is someone could take a look and let me know what you

    think?

    Thanks

    Tom

I don't see any red flag. Looks good, nice score. Reminds me I don't have enough Japanese flags in my collection yet !

Very nice. I’ve seen other with Tigers. They really bring good money.

Joel Warren, it’s good to see you back after a long break!

            Far right margin:
            出征 野太郎
            Shussei *no Tarō
            ~no Tarō, Deploying [to war]
I cannot read the first kanji of the surname. Two examples [of the many names ending with ~] would be:
            • 青野 Ao'no
            • 吾野 Ano

            Below the tiger:

            寅歳生
            Toradoshi-sei
            Tiger-year Student
The zodiological cycles are every 12 years. The appropriate age-group would be born in 1926. [Tiger years: 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, etc.]

            Hiromasa
I'm assuming this is "Masa" (see attached image) -- the stroke order on the flag is entirely reversed in comparison, but maybe it flows smoother and is "artistic". I have seen examples in seal-stamps where the kanji components are reversed for artistic display.

To the left of the tiger, and again near the 3 o'clock position:

            祈武運長久
            Ki Bu'un Chōkyū
Wishes for continued luck in the fortunes of war

            Below the tiger:

            義勇奉公
            Giyū Kōkō
            Heroic Public Duty

            Top margin:

            米英撃滅
            Bei-Ei Gekiatsu
            Destroy America and England
            撃滅 = destruction; annihilation; extermination
It is also the title to a war-time song.

            9 o'clock:
            平常心之道
            Heijōshin no Michi
The way of the unfettered mind
Although a Buddhist concept the slogan is also used by martial artists.

And just to the left of Heijoshin:
            必勝、信念
            Hisshō, Shin'nen
            Conviction of Total Victory!

Awesome info Guy. I never thought to associate the Tiger with the zodialogical cycles birth year of the soldier! I always just thought the Tiger was a sign associated with courage and fierceness in battle. Thanks
