    Japanese Navy Flag

Picked this IJN rayed flag up this week from the vet's daughter. She told me that he had served on a cargo ship that carried equipment and ammunition in support of the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1943, and was involved in direct action with the enemy. His ship also participated in the occupation of Wakayama and Nagoya, and later evacuated military and civilians from Shanghai and Tsingtao in China.

It measures about 52 by 32.5 inches. It shows wear and age, but still has a vivid red color. It has a sleeve for the rope, something I have not seen before.

For some reason attachments are disabled on my PC browser so I had to attach photos via my cell phone. Any idea why that is happening?

Nice to find. It appears to be machine stitched vs hand stitched.
        Congratulations

I don't think yours was fully "completed" and that is why the hoist edge has no rope. Here is a detail of a handsewn IJN Admirals flag:

Thanks. Yes I’ve owned several before and that makes sense. Maybe he got it in Japan.
