    Civil defense helmet:
    利根川 成文
    Tonegawa Shigefumi
    Surname/given name

    中山村
    Nakayama Mura
    Nakayama Village

    埼玉比企
Saitama Hiki [Hiki is a "state" -- 郡 gun -- within Saitama Prefecture]

The canteen strap is too much for me to attempt tonight.

        Hi Tom,

I said civil defense because of the cotton liner, helmet cord bales, and the county address -- none of which are found on military helmets to my knowledge. Hopefully someone with a lot more knowledge than I can weigh in.

Text accompanying the below image showing civil defense wardens:

        helmet article, p. 12
Read the full 13-page article, it will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about Japanese army helmets.

Yes this variation helmet is called civilian defense or last ditch & consensus is that it's not a military used helmet

One of the most common ways to enhance is add a star! Original stars are rounded in profile to fit curved surface. If it's flat it's likely a repro
