    Chinese copy?

    A friend of mine bought this a while back, and is not sure what it is? Chinese cheap copy of a ww2 Japanese sword?

      Cerrick, with those pictures it's really going to be difficult to give you an educated opinion.

      In general, there were no "late-war" officer swords. Yes, they were making swords all the way to the end of the war, but the quality of officer swords didn't change that much, like the NCO swords did.

      Yes, there are many swords made for occupied forces in occupied lands. Their quality is far lower than IJA gunto, but still they were usually higher quality than I see in these pics.

      Without better pictures and more of the blade tang, blade tip, better close-ups of the handle tip and scabbard parts. - I'd default to fakery, but honestly need more pics to say that even.

              What I can tell you for sure, is that it wasn't a Japanese made sword. At best, the scabbard MAY have been, but the sword is either an island sword, or a post-war fake.
