Kanji characters on dead reckoning computer

I was wondering what these characters mean? unit markings? A neat piece of kit here, I give kudos to the Japanese for sure, they created in many ways gear that surpassed even the Germans for quality.
Of course any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I think that is a vintage computer( like slide rule) for pilot to calculate the flying course, airspeed.

I think Mr Chen is right. Though I am not very knowledgeable about military rank structures, I think 飛長 [hi'chou] is a plane commander. I'm extrapolating from 班長 hanchō [squad leader] and 隊長 taichō[captain/company commander].

My view aligns with Mr. Chen:

          281空
          Flight 281

          林飛長
          Hayashi Hichō
          Plane Commander Hayashi
