The menuki look like tobacco pouch ornaments
And if the blade has a fatal flaw there is no value in this sword
As has been said spend more ,or get lucky, and buy a better sword
I have bought three gunto since Christmas two gendiato the other a mantetsu for little money at uk antique/flea markets there are lots more French fairs
I would not recommend using the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) -- or any other military badge -- unless one has actually earned it. I'm not addressing you personally, oldhonda, just putting it out for mass consumption. And for all I know, you do have the CIB.
I have the Expert Infantryman Badge (EIB) and Ranger Tab, but wouldn't put them on my sword simply because ... dunno .... not "menuki" enough like the wings are. Anyway, we used to call the EIB a "CIB with a blank-adapter". The authorization is as old as the CIB (1943 I think)... but .... once you get the "real thing" everything pales in comparison. My dad (RVN) and granddad (WWII) both valued their CIBs more than their Bronze Star Medal.
