Yes, it looks to be a WW2 style Japanese pistol lanyard. Cannot tell if its original or not from the pics provided.

Thank you Paul, not sure how to address your concerns with better photos? no flash? or?
The stitching bothered me...just is not a perfect match to examples that I see online.
I even wondered briefly if it was German.

Stitching looks good to me. Possibly has some age, as the leather looks like its aged / cracked. The fuzziness of the cord makes me think its a reproduction. My guess is its not a new reproduction. Every original I have seen shows wear and age to the cord.

He had a lot of Japanese items in one area of the room and then a lot of mixed nationalities in a box elsewhere, he also had repro and fake stuff mixed in like all of the old collections that I have obtained over the years. My (biased of course) feeling is that this is period ww2, the age of the leather certainly bears that out.
These seemingly worthless little things go for a lot more than one might think.
Thank you for your time Paul.

I agree it looks original. They've been making some excellent repros over the years. I suggest you repost over at gunboards.com on Japanese board. Also these lanyards came in a few different cord diameters depending on pistol.

The lanyard proved to be a repro.
Thank you to everyone for their help.

Eric, thanks for being honest enough to learn the facts before assuming and it was and selling it to an unsuspecting buyer. Most of us have limited budgets and buying a "flat tire" can really hurt sometimes.

Well I don't sell 'flat tires' .A fake if sold unwittingly by me results in an immediate refund.
My issue, as always with these older collections, is wading through the mass carefully to avoid expensive lessons for me.
