          The hemp Last-ditch on the strap:
          It looks like two surnames to me:

          一東
          Ichihigashi

          山木 /or/ 山本
          Yamaki or Yamamoto

            Quite possibly the kanji is Shimitsu

                I've seen similar designs where the lines forming the circle are actually kanji .... but of course I can't find an example to show you when I need it!!

                Here's what I think:

                [reading today from left to right: 高士; a man of noble character]
                ====
                [ Silk]
                ====
                [Jade]

                I'm not too confident of the top kanji so I highlight it in pink. Another possibility could be 土部 [soil + section].. which does not make sense to me. It is easy to confuse both (long base) = ground/earth, and (short base) = well respected man [ex: 武士 bushi/warrior & 修士 shūshi/ one who has a master's degree.

                In conducting my due dilligance I find that 高士玉 is a Chinese name, Gao Shi Yu ... perhaps it was the name of the silk company?

                Anyway ... it's an interesting corporate logo.

                    Guy, thank you so much for the additional translations. When I bought the helmet it was advertised as having a "silk factory" logo (no further details). Thank you for confirming that it is or something similar to that.

                          Hi Zach, thank you very much for sharing more pictures from you breadbag, nice stuff one !

                          Sorry for the delay, it's the third time I write this answer, this time I will think to do a c/c just un case.

                          I had to read again Nick Komiya's excellent article about IJA breadbag on warrelics. What we learn from it is : Hook and eyelet system to adjust the bag volume has been introduced with the 1914 model, and abandoned with the 1938 one.

                          On the other hand, hemp have been abandoned with the 1914 model.

                          Could it be one of the first model 1914, made from the hemp fabric left in stock ?

                          I have a model 1940 breadbag in my collection with a hemp shoulder strap and aluminium fittings. Unfortunatly nous showa stamp left to date it.

                          Anyway it's very nice and I think it's a rare bird on term of breadbag.

                          Cheers,
                          Mat.
