    Ww2 nco sword, fake?

I just bought a ww2 japanese nco sword that im starting to think might be fake but im not 100% sure. Seller says he got it from a ww2 vet at a gun show 20 years ago. To me everything looks correct except the hilt. I thought it was an early copper type hilt, but it doesnt look like pics ive looked up it looks more like brass and the numbers on the blade are over 6000 which ive been told is where tgey changed to aluminum. Also the scabbard doesnt have brass where the sword goes in like all the rest ive seen. I would really apreciate some help. I also have no idea how to upload pics. If someone could enlighten me?

Can we get a name to talk to?

It sounds like you’re already spotting some of the telltale signs.

I think you will have to pursue Assoc. Membership in order to post pics. Info. for that is at the top. Look for A. Member.

Here are 10 photos supplied to me for posting. Please wait till I've got them all posted before coming in with your thoughts.

In my view there is no doubt that it's a reproduction piece. Brass tsuka, fake fuchi stampings, incorrect serial number font, lack of inspection mark on the blade and the presence of what are supposed to look like kanji on the nakago all add up to a repro.

A corresponding authentic Suya stamp (far left) should look like this ...

A proper Kokura mark (far right) looks like this.

I see now that there is a mark on the blade adjacent to the serial number that presumably is an inspection mark. It lacks sufficient definition to be authentic in my view. Here are examples of appropriately placed inspection marks.

That was a very educational illustrated response, Stu! Thank you very much.

Pretty high-end reproduction. They’re getting better with the Kokura stamp!

Type 95 fuchi don’t have a built-in seppa like this one. Also the barrel-screw on the end of the tsuka is wrong.

                              Here are some real ones:
